Outdoor Learning
At Shade we believe in the importance of learning outside pf the classroom. All classes are taken on trips both in the locality and further afield in order to extend their curriculum learning. Quite often these trips are at the end of a unit of work and provide a great opportunity for consolidation of their learning.
We also have 2 residential trips:
Year 5 visit Malham and stay at the Youth Hostel there, walking to Gordale Scar and Malham Cove, carrying out a river study whilst there.
Year 6 spend a whole week at Lakeside YMCA on lake Windermere and get the opportunity to do all kinds of outdoor activities; rock-climbing on real rock faces, canoeing on a real lake, all kinds of activities that they would never have the opportunity to do at school.
We contributed to this short video that was made to support a big fundraising project for the centre.
We surveyed our parents after our last y6 residential. please read the feedback below to see what they thought.
